01 Overview & how to win

Mileage Run is a strategic planning board game for 2–6 players. Players compete to design the most rewarding Travel Plan by selecting flights, destinations, loyalty programs and travel experiences.

Each round, players acquire Travel Items from the Departure Board, carefully balancing cost, timing and long-term strategy. Players earn reward points by purchasing Travel Items, fulfilling Personal Travel Goals, and optimising their overall Travel Plan (Travel Itinerary).

At the end of the game, the player with the most reward points wins.

03 Key concepts

Travel Plan

Each player’s personal play area where Travel Item Tiles are placed, beginning with their Home Tile.

Travel Items

Tiles representing travel elements such as Cities, Airlines, Accommodation, Credit Cards and more. These provide reward points and bonuses.

Connections

Each Travel Item has two or more connection points. These must connect to matching open connection points in your Travel Plan.

Completion

A Travel Item is considered completed when all of its connection points are connected to other Travel Items. Connect all travel points to complete the item, which triggers an immediate bonus action.

Playing a round
05 Game structure

The game is played over a fixed number of rounds. Each round has two phases:

  1. Travel Agent Phase
  2. Travellers Planning Phase

After each round, the Travel Agent role passes clockwise.

06 Phase 1 — Travel Agent Phase

The Travel Agent prepares the Travel Brochure.

1
Draw Travel Item ChipsDraw Travel Item Chips from the pouch and reveal the corresponding Travel Item Tiles.
2
Optional removalThe Travel Agent may remove 1 Travel Item Tile from the Travel Brochure and return it face down to the supply.
3
Price Travel ItemsPlace each Travel Item Tile on an available price slot on the Departure Board.

Pricing rules

  • Only one Travel Item Tile may occupy each price slot.
  • The Travel Agent may rearrange and reprice all Travel Items currently on the board.
  • The Travel Agent may consider strategy, Personal Travel Goals and opponents’ needs when pricing.
  • The Travel Agent must place Travel Items in all available spots in the Travel Brochure, except the blocked ones.
07 Phase 2 — Travellers Planning Phase

Starting with the player to the left of the Travel Agent and proceeding clockwise, players take turns. On your turn, choose one option.

Option A — Buy and place a Travel Item

  1. Select one Travel Item Tile from the Travel Brochure.
  2. Pay the listed price. Payment goes to the Travel Agent — except when the Travel Agent buys, in which case they pay the bank instead.
  3. Place the Travel Item Tile in your Travel Plan following the placement rules.
  4. If placement completes the Travel Item, immediately trigger its completion bonus.

Option B — Pass

Take $400 from the bank. Once you pass, you cannot take further turns during this round.

Travel Agent turn. The Travel Agent always takes their turn last in each round.

End of round

The round ends when all players have passed or taken their final turn, including the Travel Agent. Advance the round counter, pass the Travel Agent Figure clockwise, and begin the next round.

08 Travel Item placement rules

When placing a Travel Item Tile:

  1. It must connect to at least one open connection point in your Travel Plan.
  2. Connections must align exactly.
  3. Travel Items of the same type may not be connected directly to each other.

Invalid connections: City → City, or Airline → Airline.

Valid connection: City → Airline.

  1. Travel Items may not overlap.
  2. Once placed, Travel Items cannot be moved.
  3. Your entire Travel Plan may be repositioned as a whole to create space, but connections may not change.
09 Travel Item types & completion bonuses

Each Travel Item has a type and colour, reward points, and potentially extra connection points (Accommodation, for example) or a multiplier (Credit Cards) for specific Travel Items.

Each also has a completion bonus, shown on the Boarding Pass. The completion bonus applies when all the connections of a Travel Item are successfully connected to another Travel Item or Home Tile. Completion bonuses trigger immediately upon completion — except Travel Class.

Type Completion bonus
Cities Take a new Personal Goal
Attractions Rescore the number of points acquired by this specific Travel Item
Loyalty Programs Take an extra Travel Item for half price
Airlines Extra turn — buy another Travel Item, or pass and take $400 instead
Restaurants Cashback $600
Travel Class Score 2k extra points for each airline in your Travel Plan at the end of the game
Accommodation Score an extra 5k
Transport Choose 0, 1 or 2 used Travel Item styles (shapes) to be placed next in the Travel Brochure by the Travel Agent
10 Personal Travel Goals

Each player begins with 4 Personal Travel Goals. Goals remain secret until the end of the game, and additional goals may be earned through City completion.

Goals may award points for:

  • Specific Travel Item types
  • Specific shapes
  • Unique items
  • Cash remaining
  • Combinations of items

Little Wings cards are special goals that may be used at any time, even outside your turn.

11 End of game & final scoring

The game ends when the final round is completed. Proceed to Final Scoring. Players calculate reward points in this order:

1
Travel Plan pointsScore all reward points from Travel Items, including base reward points, connection bonuses and Credit Card multipliers.
2
Personal Travel GoalsReveal and score all Personal Travel Goals.
3
Remaining moneyConvert money into reward points — every $500 = 1k reward points, with no rounding. For example: $400 = 0 points, $1000 = 2k points, $2200 = 4k points.

The player with the most reward points wins.

12 Scoring example

Three connected Travel Items — a Reward Plus credit card, the Sydney city tile and a 2 Bed Apartment:

Travel Item Points
Reward Plus +3k base reward points. No Credit Card multiplier bonus, as there is no Restaurant.
Sydney +5k base reward points, plus 3k connection bonus to Accommodation.
2 Bed Apartment +2k base reward points, plus 1k connection bonus to City.
Total 14k points
13 Strategic tips
  • Shape matters. Unwise placement can block your ability to complete all connections for specific Travel Items. Connections do not have to be completed, but if a connection is blocked and not attached to the connection point of another Travel Item, that item cannot be completed and therefore does not grant a completion reward.
  • Pricing is power. The Travel Agent’s pricing can influence the outcome of the game.
  • Place efficiently. Efficient Travel Item placement is critical for maximising completion bonuses.
  • Mind the cash. Managing money wisely is essential.
  • Watch the table. Observing opponents helps predict their strategy and Personal Travel Goals.
